Brodd 2 - Storhaug

The wardrobe:

Storhaug has been in a bit of a slump as of late, but nevertheless the smiles were abound in the new modern Brodd facility. A few much needed old faces made their way into the locker room for a thin squad of 13 total players. Again, the coach and goalkeepers were missing for the match, perhaps because of the frigid windy weather, so Hansi stepped up to give the pre-game speech and Ryan made his European debut in green between the sticks.

Starters:

1st round

The first half Storhaug pushed forward against the wind. A young, skilled, and cohesive Brodd worked the ball around the pitch in a controlled and advancing manner. Only a few minutes into the affair, Brodd had secured an opening goal via a slotted pass from the right side of the box across the goal towards a streaking forward teammate. Storhaug managed another 20 minutes of back and forth play, keeping Brodd’s attacks out of the goal and out for a slew of corners and goal kicks. Few chances came for Storhaug on the other side of the pitch due to a quality opposing defence coupled with strong wind which kept long balls at bay. Eventually, around the 25 minute mark Brodd secured a corner kick which sailed over the keeper’s outstretched hands and found the head of an awaiting back-post player. Storhaug was now facing a 2-0 deficit. For the remainder of the half, a few attempts on goal came from Rene, Abdi, and Simon, however, none provided enough muster to find the back of the net.

2nd round

After regrouping in the locker room and warming the hands and faces of the players, Storhaug came out with a new attitude and commitment towards playing more connected. The North to South wind which favoured Brodd in the first half, now shifted to a crosswind which had provided less advantage for the men in red in the second half. Nevertheless, Brodd kept up the advances which were denied time and time again. A few more attempts on goal, crosses into the box, and free kicks for Storhaug came later in the half, but none could manifest into points on the board. In the final minutes of the game however, Brodd pressed the right side of the box and slipped another ball across the 6 yard box which found the back of the net, nearly mirroring their first goal. There was no reason for Storhaug to hang their heads on. Faced against a talented young squad, debuting an inexperienced goalkeeper, and fighting the weather conditions, all-in-all Storhaug played a well fought match.*

Stars

Two stars today go to those who played on the back line and defended the never ending onslaught from Brodd. Hansi, Christopher, Domas, Pavel, and Ryan in Goal – who despite a lack of formal training secured quality denials on goal from just about every angle (freekicks, corners, and shots from Brodd attackers)
